Book Review: Sekret Machines: Chasing Shadows

Updated: Oct 7, 2024

Book Review: Sekret Machines: Chasing Shadows (Book 1) by Tom DeLonge, guitarist of Blink-182 and Angels & Airwaves, and British-American novelist A. J. Hartley.

A science-fiction novel that weaves stories of fiction and non-fiction to keep readers engaged and interested in the mysteries of the skies. Each chapter gives you a new part of the story at large and changes between one of four main characters until their stories inevitably intertwine.

Tamika is a New York journalist who runs a website dedicated to debunking conspiracy theories; think bigfoot and the loch ness monster. Alan is a Marine pilot serving overseas until he is grounded and transported to a facility in Nevada. Jerzy is a Jewish boy in WWII who is taken as a POW. Finally, Jennifer is an heiress in London trying to sort out her father’s businesses.

Each character’s story keeps readers on their toes and makes it hard to put the book down. Strange encounters of men in suits and very hush hush conversations leads readers to believe there is more at play than first meets the eye.

Throughout the book some chapters are dedicated to events that are “based on a true story”, which are not part of the main story. Reader’s can become confused since these chapters are not labeled as such. There is a slight change in the font used to publish these stories which helps the reader identify the difference from the main story.

Reader’s should take time to read the forward to get a better understanding of the research used to create the stories through the novel.
